By embodying a human-centered design approach, unifying fragmented systems, and transforming raw data into actionable insights, Factory Explorers enables proactive decision-making at scale.

During a factory tour with a medical device manufacturer, we observed supply chain users struggling to determine the right actions when production issues occurred. This lack of clarity led to delays and significant business losses. Factory Explorers was created to address this problem.

We showcased this work at Oracle CloudWorld to thousands of attendees. The demo received widespread attention and positive feedback, and was later featured by Forbes for its role in transforming the future of Supply Chain Systems.

Current System

However, the current production systems sit in fragmented places, leading to reactive rather than proactive problem-solving, making it hard to backward-trace the problem and prevent business loss efficiently.

Differentiate Factory Explorers

User Journey Map

I mapped out the business structures and user personas across the production ecosystem.
Given the system’s scope, I intentionally narrowed the MVP to one key user: Production Supervisor (Ava)

Ava owns both:

  • Operational response on the factory floor

  • Business outcomes such as throughput, quality, and on-time delivery

Her core goal: monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues quickly and confidently

From research, three recurring scenarios emerged when issues occur in production:

  1. Discover – Detect that something is wrong

  2. Investigate – Understand what’s happening and why

  3. Resolve – Take action and mitigate downstream impact

This journey became the backbone of the product strategy.

Key Problems Identified

  • Limited visibility to contextual business KPIs during incidents

  • Disconnected systems making it difficult to identify root causes

  • Manual, inefficient workflows that slow response time
